Secondary
The nature of the syllabus changes as greater emphasis is put on subjects. For all pupils we seek to open up a subject for them, to appreciate its contribution to our understanding of God's world as well as to prepare them for GCSE's.
A core syllabus is offered in English, Maths, French and Science. Other subjects normally available include Geography, RE, History, Art, D&T, Music, Drama, Food Studies and Information Technology.
In Upper School project classes, an integrated approach is used with an emphasis on an understanding of 'world views'. We look at selected parts of the world to see how different is their view of the world from ours, and how their culture has developed. This is particularly seen through their religious base, family life, their attitude to work and their political systems. Examples of these projects include South Africa, West Indies, Japan, the Islamic world and China. We encourage the pupils to try to evaluate their own time and culture in the light of the guiding principles found in the Bible.
In the final two years the syllabus is mainly geared to preparing the pupils for examinations, but still with an emphasis on biblical perspectives. Our aim is wider than success in exams alone. We aim to prepare pupils to think, to consider information and to make judgements based on biblical thought.
PE is included in the Upper School curriculum. Our on-site facilities are very limited and so what is on offer will vary from year to year, depending on what facilities are available to us. However the pupils are introduced to a wide range of activities including indoor and outdoor games and athletics.
